MaQata and a good week

By Badoque | May 1, 2009

As everybody is now either sleeping till the late afternoon, watching a hindustani movie on Vasantham or having a big lunch at home with family, MaQ tengah blogging from East Coast Parkway.Yes! MaQata being the malay fairy that she is, is doing a project of her own on Labour Day.

East Coast Parkway feels like Geylang right now to be honest.Melayu suma tengah Mardi Gras ni.Yang step tangkap ikan lain, yang step masak sardine by the tons lain and not forgetting the 20 man tent that fits 40 family members furnished with television and a dvd player.

MaQ glided over  some families and am amazed at the cooking utensils, we Malays bring to cook a meal.MaQ saw this nenek tengah tumis sambal to make her special Sambal Sardine, while on the other pot sits asam pedas pekat cat tembok that tantalises my malay nerves.

Then there is the makcik that seems to be cooking a solid Curry Ayam dengan potatoes with Nasi Dhal.MaQata would like to give a big shout out to all these ladies for their extreme efforts in cooking a meal by the sea.100 points for the effort,10 points for the great meal.

Who would’nt like a nice cooked meal with the sea breezes kat muka kan? And this year as everyone knows, has a whole lot of long weekends. So i guess,we shall be seeing half of the malay community by the beach this year on a regular basis! Best sekali! It has the kampung feel to it somehow.Makciks with gucci glasses and silk tudongs with the legs stretched out and the ever classic nenek tampal bedak kat muka cucu like he or she has got lice.I just don’t get it.Kenapa kena buat muka budak tu macam wayang pek-ji?

Badoque has been attacked by crowds these past few nights and as i would like to highlight over and over again. It feels like a mix between cafe del mar and hard rock minus the liquor.Orang tengah ketawa kuat with good music playing in the background, kids running outside of the shop while parents try to finish their kid’s food that was left on the table.Friends talking about the good old days they had while they were in school.

( MaQ sensed it was a reunion thing ) Ah yes, talking about reunions,Is this  the season where old friends suma decide to meet up again? MaQ noticed that lately at Badoque.Big groups of 15 to 20 packing up the place.Well MaQ sensed it because MaQ overheard them talking about sidekni kena caning,si dektu maki teacher,so i guessed as much, that it was a reunion lah kan.

I like reunions. It’s just a spectacular thing to do,meeting up with old friends whom you’ve not for so long and talk about the good old days of harassing teachers and stealing food from the stall that is mended by one person or finding out the easiest way to cabut school from a hole in the fence behind the  school field. Those would be memorable times that no one could ever forget.MaQ being the fairy that she is,went through such things too.I mean hey, look at it this way,There is Fairy High School which we all have to go through.Infact,MaQata also met some old friends of hers which just got attached next to Badoque. What a small world and what a big coincidence that we are all fairy god mothers of shops at the back row of Simpang Bedok.

Theres Ramlah, who is also a fairy god mother to the new shop that just opened recently serving Indonesian Cuisine. Its called Waroeng if im not wrong.Ramlah was a foreign student from indonesia and we were not as close in Fairy High School, but we had our times of sharing cigarettes in the toilets or exchanging each others bags or clothes when we headed to town to go to the notorious Fairy Club at Orchard Plaza called FireFlies.I love FireFlies.I remembered how we all had to wait for the Kereta Fairy to pop out before the dj would blast the music for the tea dance.Ok i think i am beginning to run away from my original story.

Coming back to Ramlah, the foreign indonesian fairy. She is now attached as the fairy god mother of Waroeng. The indonesian supper place, afew doors down from Badoque.Ramlah told me that they’re opened from 6pm to 4am and its really nice to see another joint behind.

Infact, for me personally,MaQata has another memba to gay-tek with now.MaQ hugged her tightly and we both mama drama on top of the roof. While we were recalling the good old days,MaQ and Ramlah saw another fairy that just got dropped off by the Fairy Bus.

She is to be attached to the new shop directly next to Badoque that serves Korean Cuisine. But it’s a pity it isn’t halal though. She stared at me and Ramlah and flew herself to the roof of the shop she’s attached to.MaQ and Ramlah stared at each other before we gave her a jeling tak kuasa look.Whatever eh minah! You’re the rookie over here,so takmuh nak action dengan the malay and indon fairy.Infact just because kau Korean, doesn’t mean kau leh kimchi kan kita with your korean robes. We are afterall the same species.MaQ am excited for both Waroeng and Kim’s Deli and MaQ nak welcome you both with open arms and legs.

To the human workforce,MaQ nak say Happy Labour Day! Sorry kita fairies takda union so we don’t celebrate such things. We only besar-besarkan Hari Duli Yang Maha Mulia Queen and King of Fairies.

Till Tomorrow

Toodles
